Mura Jo Davis currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. She grew up in New England where in the seasons, mountains, ocean, forests and gardens, she developed her feeling of close connection with the powerful, ever-changing manifestations of nature, as well as her life-long sense of the relationship between inner and outer landscapes.

"When I was young, all I wanted to draw and paint were portraits and figures, both real and imagined, because of the feelings I could experience and express in depictions of the human face and form. In my teens, I began as well to sculpt in clay and stone and to paint in watercolor and acrylic. I have always been fascinated by form, color and texture."

As an adult, Mura made her home in Montreal for many years, where she studied painting and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited in shows in Quebec and Ontario, and is currently found in private collections in Canada and the United States.

Mura has worked in a variety of art media including sculpture, painting, drawing, monoprints and, more recently, digital painting. In all of these media, her work develops from ideas, memories, emotions and a sense of curiosity and delight in her materials, striving to express and explore our perceptions of existence in simultaneously natural, cosmic and psychological contexts. Her works are realistically figurative while evoking a surreal awareness of the movement and mysteries of life and spirit.
