As a fine artist who has worked in several 'traditional' media, I approach working on a computer in a similar way. When I started doing digital art, I discovered, as I became familiar with the tools, how similar the 'digital studio' is to a 'regular' studio.

I draw and paint on screen with a wide variety of 'virtual' tools – many different brushes, pencils, erasers, chalk, crayon, conte, palette knives, liquids, etc. – using techniques such as underpainting, overpainting, glazing, wet in wet, dry brush, collage, scraping, blending, masking, etc., in much the same way as when I use the traditional physical materials. I make the same kinds of decisions about how I will interact with the media, and which tools and techniques I will use to best express what I wish to express.

I also sometimes incorporate into a piece scanned drawings or paintings I have done by traditional methods, photographs I have taken, or occasionally objects I have found. In a sense, these are partial 'collage' or 'mixed media' compositions, but the finished piece does not look like collage (unless I choose to make it so) because I have painted into, over and under the scanned element to incorporate it into the final work, and because the final work is in the form of a print.

In addition, I use some of what are in fact computer generated effects to create patterns and textures and manipulate the painting and drawing in my compositions in a variety of ways. This can be done both purposefully and as the result of happy accidents in the creative interplay between artist and materials.

PRINTS
My work can be enjoyed through my virtual galleries, or can be printed from the digital original.
I print my own work as giclee prints using a high quality large format printer with archival quality ink on archival watercolor paper, ensuring that they will last. A giclee print framed under glass is meant to last for over 100 years with no deterioration. Each print is individually configured, color adjusted and proofed before the final printing. The result is a very high quality work of art in beautiful vibrant color.

What is shown on this website are low resolution copyrighted copies which will not produce a good reproduction. For purchase of prints, prices and availability, please contact the artist.
